What to have for a first consultation
Whatever exists of: the will, the death certificate, a rough list of assets and debts, and the family picture, who survives, who is where. Nothing needs to be complete; the probate checklist on the tools page organises the fuller gathering that follows. For contested matters, bring the dates: when the grant issued, when the will was learned of, because the strictest clocks in this field run in months.
Executors abroad can begin by email with a summary of the estate and scanned copies of what they hold; consultations then run by video at a time that suits the time zone.
